A
GREENER LIFE
At Green Tots we
are dedicated to helping families live a greener life. We only offer
products that are environmentally friendly and we are always searching for ways
to make green life easy and affordable for our customers.
Why Go Green?
Going green is not only about
saving the rain forests and preserving natural resources. It is also
about your health, padding your wallet, raising the value of your home, and
having an overall better quality of life for you and your children.
- Chemicals in cleaning
products can irritate the lungs
- Chemicals in plastic toys are
toxic to us and the environment
- 25 % of western
pharmaceuticals come from amazonian rain forests, protect the rain forests
and protect life saving medicines
- For every ton of paper that
is recycled we save: 7,000 gallons of water; 380 gallons of oil; and
enough electricity to power an average house for 6 months
- You can run a TV for 6 hours
on the amount of electricity that is saved by recycling one aluminum can
- By recycling just one glass
bottle, you save enough electricity to power a 100-watt bulb for 4 hours
- Green homes are desirable and
sell for more
- Being energy efficient
reduces energy costs and pads your wallet
What to look for in Green Products:
- Made
with Sustainable, Renewable, or Recycled Materials
- Opt
for 100% Organic Cotton Non-organic
Cotton is produced with a very high level of pesticides
- Fair
Trade
- Manufactured
Locally (Reduces waste by reducing shipping distances and supports local
economy)
Going Green With Baby:
- Recycle Baby products are great but they don't always
last that long because kids grow out of things quickly. Look into
places where you can donate and/or sell used baby items. You can
also set up toy and clothing swaps with other moms.
- Switch
to Cloth Diapers I urge you to try because it isn't as hard as it
seems but if you really cant make the switch then try hybrid diapers which
have biodegradable components.
- Switch
to Cloth Wipes Even if you don't use cloth diapers it is simple to
use and wash cloth wipes and your baby's bottom will thank you!
- Filter
the Air in Your Home Studies have shown
that the air inside a home is more contaminated than the air outside, so
look into a HEPA or other type of air filter.
- Eliminate
or Reduce Plastic Toys Kids love to put
everything in their mouths and plastic toys are produced with toxic
chemicals. The chemicals are also toxic to us and the environment
and they break easier than wooden toys.
- Breastfeed It's Free! You don't have to get in your car and
drive to get some, it doesn't have any preservatives, and research shows
that it provides your baby with increased immunity and health. If
breastfeeding isn't possible, opt for an organic formula.
- Make
Organic Baby Foods When your baby is
ready for solids try to opt for home made - there are many great books out
there and also great baby recipes on the internet. If it sounds
daunting to pull out the pots and pans and start cooking then you can look
into baby food makers which cook, chop, and blend food all in one machine
so you have less clean up.
- Use
your Dishwasher Its less time
consuming and using a dishwasher can save you 5,000 gallons of water
annually
- Use
Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Replacing just 3 of the most commonly
used lights in your house will save 300 pounds of CO2 annually
